The Open Championship began early this morning at Royal Lytham & St. Anne’s, and so far the leaderboard is topped with some huge names and major champions.

Adam Scott leads the field at 7-under through 17 holes, and he’s currently chasing the first ever 62 in major championship history and needs a birdie on the 18th to set the record.

Scott bogeyed the par-4 third but has made eight birdies and five pars since.

Scores have been rather low this morning at a very difficult Lytham & St. Anne’s course, as players have been taking advantage of unusually calm wind conditions and very soft greens.

2007 Masters winner Zach Johnson just holed his sixth birdie of the day to move to 5-under.

Tiger Woods is just a few shots back at 4-under, tied for third place with Graeme McDowell and Paul Lawrie.

Current Masters champion Bubba Watson at 3-under.

We’ll keep you updated throughout the day.
